Drone soft washing for suitable roofs and facades

Drone soft washing applies cleaning solution from the air for roofs, facades and tall structures where the project suits it. It's one of our cleaning methods, chosen for the surface, access and project needs.

What drone soft washing is

A tethered spray drone applies a soft-wash solution to roofs and exterior surfaces. On suitable projects, it reduces the need for lifts, scaffolding and crews walking on the roof. Our crew still handles site setup, protection, rinsing and final inspection.

Suitable applications

  • Multi-story roofs, including tile and other delicate surfaces where foot traffic is a concern
  • Building facades: stucco, brick, siding and parapet walls
  • Water towers and tall structures, when the surface and site allow
  • Upper-level surfaces that are hard to reach safely from the ground
  • Hotels, apartments, offices and institutions where lifts and staging would disrupt operations

How we choose the cleaning method

Drone cleaning is one of several methods we use. For each property we consider the surface material, height and access, the buildup, nearby people and vehicles, and the project requirements. Flatwork usually calls for pressure washing, and roofs and siding usually call for soft washing. Drones are used where they reduce lifts, scaffolding or roof foot traffic on suitable projects. We won't recommend drone cleaning where another method is safer or more effective.

Our process

  • Site assessment: height, surface material, access, nearby people and vehicles, and airspace
  • Flight planning and site controls for people and property
  • Application: the drone applies a soft-wash solution matched to the surface
  • Targeted passes on problem areas, then a rinse and final inspection
  • Review: results documented with photos on request

Benefits

  • Fewer lifts and less scaffolding on suitable projects
  • Less foot traffic on sensitive roofs
  • Less equipment staged in parking areas and walkways
  • Access to elevated surfaces that are difficult to reach safely from the ground

Benefits depend on the project. Drone work still requires a site plan.

Limitations

  • Weather: wind and rain can delay or stop flights
  • Airspace: flights follow FAA rules and local airspace restrictions, which can limit where and when we fly
  • Surfaces: not every roof or surface is suitable. Heavily damaged roofing may need repair first
  • Flatwork, pool decks and some areas use ground methods
  • Results vary with surface condition, material and buildup
Questions

Common questions

What can be cleaned with a drone?

Depending on the property and material, drone soft washing can be used on roofs, facades, stucco, siding, parapet walls, water towers and other hard-to-reach exterior surfaces. Each project is assessed first.

Is drone cleaning safer than traditional methods?

It can reduce some risks, such as ladder work and walking on roofs. Drone work has its own requirements, including airspace rules, wind limits and site controls, so we assess each project before deciding.

When is drone cleaning not the right choice?

On windy days, in restricted airspace, on surfaces that can't take the solution, or where another method is more effective. Flatwork is one example. We recommend another method when it fits better.

Do you fly over occupied areas?

We plan site controls for people, vehicles and property before flying. Tell us about occupied areas when you request a property assessment.

Is your pilot certified?

Our pilot holds FAA Part 107 certification, which covers commercial drone operations. The certification is not an endorsement of any particular service.
